classic books for curious minds
The other day, my husband’s wifi wasn’t working. We had to go to the Apple store, which happened to be in an outdoor mall.
While I was waiting for him, I enjoyed walking around there. They have some really nice displays. Here are some pictures I took of the Old Orchard Mall near Chicago.
How good it felt to be outdoors and doing something! Especially as the weather was wonderful. I was thankful for the excursion and impromptu date night with my husband.
I always dreamed of being a writer, but never thought I could make money doing it. So, after earning a BA in English and honing my reading, analytical, and writing skills, I settled for a more "stable" career in ministry (joking, of course!), bringing my love for the written word to my Biblical studies as I learned Greek and Hebrew, Exegesis and Theology while getting an MA in Theological Studies. I've worked in various ministry capacities in the church: children's minister, ministry staff (aka, "whatever needs doing"), ESL teacher, youth intern, and others. Though this blog is mostly about classic literature, I will probably throw in some thoughts on writing, occasional theological musings, or my reflections on emotional health, psychology, philosophy, or cultural topics. I am a thinker and a lover of many things! I think this might be the outdoor mall I stopped at several times to stretch my legs after surviving Chicago traffic :). Glad you could get out! Hey, I couldn’t find a contact option when I clicked on your blog so I will just ask my question here : I have a lot of Indian girls and women following the GMD story I’ve been posting on my blog. I have been thinking about starting to post another one in English and Hindi (The Day Boy and the Night Girl) if I can get a local friend to translate. Do you know what the guidelines are for stories that are considered public domain? Can we make small adjustments while we translate to make it more understandable to a Hindi audience as long as we state that it is adapted from the original and give GMD full credit? I’ve never had to think about issues like this before.

Hi Melanie, That’s a new one for me, as I’m not generally translating texts into Hindi 😉 But I do know that it’s fine to share stories that are public domain, as long as credit is given, and its fine to paraphrase stories that are public domain, though credit should still be given. Translation, I would guess, would fall in the same category (just say its translated from GM’s story). But you can claim the credit for your translation!
